This time last year—not on a whim, but also not-not on a whim—I put out the first issue of Costume Change. I had originally intended to write one issue a month, as a fun side project, but releasing something I wrote out into the world made me giddy. Riding that high, I announced to my husband: “I’m going to do one every week.” It was a big goal to take on without much planning, but I was doing a play, away from home (again), and I needed a creative outlet I could access anywhere. Plus, I had so much to say!
I wrote about vintage shopping and I wrote about trends. I wrote about my journey to find the perfect loafers and vacation-dressing. I re-created the outfits of a (much!) younger me, and wrote about that too. I profiled so many friends and family! I spent a lot of time thinking about how I get dressed for work. And I also wrote about other things—on the weeks that felt a little hard or a little sad.
Somehow, a year has passed. I am (gratefully) sitting in a different dressing room, for a different play. I still love clothes, and I still love style, but my hope is to start exploring some other loves too. I feel it’s time to shift the tone, and perhaps the pace, ever so slightly. So, to celebrate the one year anniversary of Costume Change, I am embracing the spirit of capital-C Change and taking a short pause. Just for now, to figure out what I want to write next.
This year has been SO FUN. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me (and it’s not over yet!). Thank you for reading and sending back so much love! It is always felt, and it is always so, so appreciated.
See you soon,
Yance
I have loved everything you've written! Can't wait to see what's next after a well deserved pause. xo
Thanks friend ☺️
